TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
“The teacher is of course an artist, but being an artist does not mean
that he or she can make the profile, can shape the students.
What the educator does in teaching is to make it possible for the students
to become themselves.”
-Paulo Freire

As an Art teacher, my goal is to guide students to develop skills that will help them to thrive in life by teaching them techniques that will help them to learn art concepts that can be applied to other aspects of life.
By learning to observe, analyze and develop their own skills and methods, students will be able to solve problems, find solutions and express themselves as they grow in understanding of their world and society.
The basic art concepts that I hope to teach give young learners the basis to grow as artists and creative beings while becoming aware of their social structures, and the place they have as individual members of their community. Students will become aware of their own space and time as they learn how to observe their surroundings. As they learn the vocabulary necessary to assess the art they are exposed to, they will be able to articulate their own observations of the world that surrounds them. Finally, by learning art methods and skills, they will have the tools necessary to express their own thoughts, opinions, and ideas in a creative manner.
I hope to help students learn by creating an atmosphere of trust while conveying clear rules and expectations. This structure shall allow students to feel safe and confident to learn, explore and create as they are guided to develop their strengths.
